This frog can remain dormant underground for up to 7 years during drought! It wraps itself in a cocoon of shed skin to prevent moisture loss and waits for rain, surviving on its stored water reserves.
When rains finally arrive after years of drought, water-holding frogs emerge in massive numbers and breed frantically. Tadpoles must complete their entire development before temporary pools evaporate — sometimes in just 4 weeks.
